Growing Slowly for the Sake of Allah
In a world that celebrates speed, visibility, and constant achievement, growing slowly can feel like falling behind. We are surrounded by messages that tell us: Move faster. Do more. Become more. Keep up. Even our hearts begin to feel rushed. But Islam teaches us a different rhythm. A gentler one. A steadier one. A pace that honors the soul as much as the outcome. Allah reminds us:“Unquestionably, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” Sometimes, the most sincere growth is quiet. And sometimes, slow is exactly what Allah loves.
Letting go of urgency culture
Urgency culture convinces us that delay equals failure. That if something takes time, it must be wrong. That rest is weakness. That stillness is wasted potential. But Allah is not in a hurry. He created the heavens and the earth in stages, though He could have created them in a single moment:“Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days…” Growth, in the way of Allah, is not meant to exhaust the soul. It is meant to refine it. To soften it. To make it steady. Some transformations happen loudly. Others unfold so quietly that only Allah witnesses them. Both are sacred.
Motherhood teaches the language of slow
Motherhood does not move at the speed of goals. It moves at the speed of needs. Of interrupted plans. Of repeated nights. Of small hands, tired bodies, and hearts that keep choosing love anyway. It teaches you that: • progress can look like patience • strength can look like staying • worship can look like showing up again and again Allah reassures hearts carrying heavy loads:“Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear.” And He promises:“For indeed, with hardship comes ease.” There are seasons when your greatest achievements do not fit into a highlight reel. They look like: Holding space. Choosing gentleness when you are tired. Returning to prayer when your energy is low. Trusting Allah with what no one else sees. And Allah sees it all. Not a moment of it is lost.
Small deeds. Lasting weight.
The Prophet ﷺ taught us:“The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are consistent, even if small.” Sahih al‑Bukhari & Sahih MuslimNot the loudest. Not the fastest. Not the most impressive. The ones that return. The ones that remain. A quiet duʿāʾ before sleep. A moment of patience when frustration rises. A sincere intention whispered in the heart. A step taken toward Allah, even when it is heavy. These deeds may look small to the world. But they are heavy with meaning.
Peace over productivity
Productivity asks: “What did you accomplish today?” Faith asks: “Where was your heart?” Allah teaches balance, not burnout:“But seek, through what Allah has given you, the Home of the Hereafter, and do not forget your share of this world.” You can be productive and empty. You can be busy and distant from yourself. You can reach goals and lose gentleness. Or… You can move slowly. And remain whole. You can do less, but with presence. You can grow without abandoning your peace. True success is not measured by speed. It is measured by direction.
Growing for Allah changes everything
When you grow for Allah: You stop racing. You stop comparing. You stop forcing seasons that are not ready. You begin to trust timing. You begin to accept limits. You begin to find peace in effort, not only in results. Allah tells us what true direction looks like:“Say, indeed my prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.” You grow— without losing yourself.
A gentle reminder
You do not have to become everything all at once. You do not have to rush your healing. You do not have to prove your worth through exhaustion. You only have to walk—sincerely—toward Allah. Even slowly. Especially slowly. Because growth for His sake is never wasted. And peace is part of the path.
